Yuri Prepares Prepaid Kimbap for Fans
Girls’ Generation member Yuri showed her support for fans attending the impeachment rally against President Yoon Suk-yeol by organizing a special event. On December 13, through her official fan communication platform, Yuri encouraged fans to “stay full, stay safe, and sing ‘Into the New World’ with all your heart,” while announcing she had prepaid for kimbap at a shop in Dangsan-dong, Seoul. Fans could claim a roll of kimbap by presenting their Girls’ Generation lightstick.
Yuri expressed her delight at seeing ‘Into the New World’ being sung at the rally and shared that she herself listens to the song daily. The track, a debut hit from 2007, has recently seen a resurgence on music streaming platforms, earning its place as a modern anthem for social movements.
IU Hosts a Prepaid ‘Reverse Fan Gift’ Event
Singer IU also showed her support for fans participating in the impeachment rally by organizing a ‘reverse fan gift’ event. She prepaid for snacks at five different shops around Yeouido, where fans could enjoy bread, rice cakes, drinks, and even 200 servings of gukbap (Korean soup with rice).
Through her thoughtful actions, IU reminded fans to stay safe and healthy, demonstrating her care and connection with her fandom. Her efforts highlighted the role of celebrities in fostering solidarity during socially significant events.
‘Into the New World’ Emerges as a New Protest Anthem
Girls’ Generation’s ‘Into the New World’ debuted in 2007, and has recently risen to fame once again as a protest anthem. Following the declaration of martial law earlier this month, its weekly listener count on Melon, a major Korean streaming platform, increased by 23%. The song has become a unifying theme at impeachment rallies, proving its timeless significance and emotional resonance.
A Unique Bond Between Fans and Stars
The prepaid events by Yuri and IU go beyond ordinary fan service, reflecting a meaningful collaboration between stars and their fans in support of a shared cause. These acts of solidarity at a pivotal moment in history show the power of music and small gestures to unite people.
This extraordinary interaction between fandoms and stars not only highlights their mutual support but also sets an example of how pop culture can contribute to societal change.
