Apple Expands Its Language Support with New iPhone Feature

Apple has recently announced that its call recording and summarizing feature, part of the Apple Intelligence AI system, now supports Korean. This update was introduced with the release of iOS 18.1 Beta 3, available for developers. As South Korea is among the first countries to release the iPhone 16, this feature's inclusion in the official version seems promising.

Detailed Overview of the New Feature and Its Availability

1. Overview of the Call Recording and Summarizing Feature

Apple's new call recording and summarizing service allows users to record phone calls and receive summaries of these conversations. When recording begins, both the caller and receiver are automatically notified. For Korean users, a message saying "이 통화가 녹음됩니다" (This call is being recorded) will be displayed. Once recording ends, a message "이 통화는 더 이상 녹음되지 않습니다" (This call is no longer being recorded) informs the other party. After the call ends, Apple’s AI provides a summary of the conversation, which can be accessed in the 'Call Recording' folder within the iPhone’s default app, 'Notes'.

2. Language Support and Future Availability

The new feature is currently available in Korean with the latest iOS 18.1 Beta 3 update. This is the eighth beta version of iOS 18 and the first to remove regional restrictions in the U.S. Users of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can access some Apple Intelligence features by setting Siri and device language to English, without regional limitations.

3. Expected Release and Compatibility

Apple's official release of the Apple Intelligence feature, including call recording and summarizing, is anticipated around October, about a month after the iPhone 16 series launch on September 9. Apple’s previous announcements at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) included support for languages such as English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, and Portuguese. The feature is expected to be integrated into the iPhone 16 series and other Apple devices with A17 chips or higher, as well as iPads and Macs with M1 chips or newer versions.

A Step Forward in Apple's AI-Driven Features

Apple’s integration of Korean language support into its call recording and summarizing feature represents a significant enhancement for Korean-speaking users. With the anticipated release of the Apple Intelligence system in October, users can look forward to a range of new functionalities. The ability to record and summarize calls, along with other AI-driven features, marks a notable advance in Apple's commitment to providing valuable and accessible technology for its global user base.
