The Future of New Jeans and Their Connection to Min Hee-jin

Since their debut in 2022, New Jeans has quickly become one of the most iconic K-pop groups.

Their popularity continues to soar, but recently, their future has become a topic of significant interest.

The key issue is whether New Jeans will follow Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of Ador, who recently left both Ador and Hybe. This has led to speculation about the group's contract situation.

The main concern is the astronomical penalty New Jeans would have to pay if they were to terminate their exclusive contract with Ador.

Reports suggest that the penalty could be as high as 620 billion KRW, making it a critical point of discussion regarding New Jeans and Min Hee-jin’s future.

620 Billion KRW Penalty, A Major Economic Burden

On November 25, 2024, a conversation log between Min Hee-jin and two former executives of Ador was obtained by Segye Ilbo. According to the conversation, if New Jeans were to terminate their contract with Ador, the penalty fee would range from 450 billion to 620 billion KRW. This conversation was revealed during Min Hee-jin's legal battle with Hybe over the right to vote at shareholder meetings.

The calculation is based on their monthly average sales, and with a remaining contract period of 62 months, each member would owe approximately 124 billion KRW in penalty fees. When multiplied by the 5 members of New Jeans, the total penalty could reach up to 620 billion KRW.

This large sum is not just a financial burden but could have significant impacts on the group's future. Industry insiders have pointed out that the economic strain makes it highly unlikely for New Jeans to break their contract with Ador. Both former executives mentioned that leaving would not only cost the group financially but would also result in the loss of past albums and brand contracts tied to Ador.

Conclusion: Is Contract Termination Feasible? Min Hee-jin's Influence

The prospect of New Jeans terminating their contract with Ador and paying over 600 billion KRW in penalties appears virtually impossible due to the huge financial burden. Industry experts suggest that it would be nearly impossible for the group to go ahead with this decision.

Furthermore, New Jeans had previously sent a legal notice to Ador demanding changes to their contract, specifically requesting the return of Min Hee-jin to the company. However, after Min Hee-jin resigned from Ador’s board, her return was effectively blocked, making New Jeans’ future decisions more uncertain. The group's next move is eagerly awaited by fans, as it will have a significant impact on their future direction.

3 Line Summary for You

New Jeans would need to pay over 600 billion KRW in penalties if they terminate their contract with Ador. Due to the massive financial burden, it seems almost impossible for them to leave. As their conflict with Min Hee-jin persists, New Jeans' future remains in the spotlight.
