Introduction

His tteokbokki, with its chewy rice cakes and deep-flavored soy sauce sauce, is a popular menu item that everyone wants to try at least once.
Ingredients
- 500g tteokbokki rice cakes
- 300g fish cakes
- 2 scallions
- 5 cloves garlic
- 4 tablespoons gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 20 grinds of black pepper
- 600ml water
Instructions
- Soak the tteokbokki rice cakes in cold water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.
- Cut the fish cakes into 1cm thick slices, slice the scallions thickly, and mince the garlic.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and fry the garlic until fragrant, then add the gochugaru and fry.
- Once the gochugaru is cooked, add the sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and gochujang and fry.
- Add the boiling water and bring to a boil.
- Add the rice cakes, fish cakes, and scallions to the boiling sauce and cook for 5 minutes.
- Once the rice cakes and fish cakes are cooked, add the black pepper and adjust the taste.
Tips
- For chewier tteokbokki, use chewy rice cakes.
- If you like spicy food, you can increase the amount of gochugaru.
- You can customize your tteokbokki by adding kimchi, rabokki sauce, cheese, or other toppings.
