In a 2024 trust rating survey conducted by the political weekly SisaIN, Yoon Suk-yeol, the current president of South Korea, received the lowest score among all sitting presidents in history, with a score of 2.82 out of 10.

According to SisaIN, Yoon's trust score was already at a historic low of 3.62 in 2022, before rising slightly to 3.63 in 2023. However, by 2024, it plummeted again to 2.82. Notably, Yoon has never surpassed former president Park Geun-hye’s trust score of 3.91 at the end of her term, even as he enters his third year in office.

The survey also found that 44.6% of respondents gave Yoon a score of "0," meaning nearly half of the population has "absolutely no trust" in the president. SisaIN noted, "This extraordinary figure suggests that Yoon has entered a state of 'psychological impeachment.'"

Lee Jae-myung Ranked as Most Trusted Politician

In the same survey, 38.9% of respondents said they had no opinion or refused to answer when asked which currently active politician they trust the most. However, among those who did provide an answer, 18.0% named Lee Jae-myung as the most trusted, followed by Han Dong-hoon (16.0%), Cho Kuk (7.9%), and Lee Jun-seok (3.3%).

MBC Trust Soars While KBS Trust Plummets

When asked about the most trusted media outlets, MBC ranked first with 25.3% of respondents choosing it, followed by KBS (8.5%) and YouTube (6.0%). TV Chosun, JTBC, SBS, YTN, Chosun Ilbo, Hankyoreh, and Dong-a Ilbo followed in that order.

On the other hand, Chosun Ilbo was ranked as the most distrusted media outlet (18.1%), with MBC, KBS, and TV Chosun also featuring prominently on the list of distrusted outlets.

Notably, MBC’s trust rating rose dramatically from 18.7% in 2023 to 25.3% in 2024, a 6.6% increase. Meanwhile, trust in KBS fell sharply from 14.2% in 2023 to 8.5% in 2024, a drop of 5.7%. Even when the question was narrowed to "the most trusted broadcast media," MBC maintained a strong lead, with 37.4% compared to KBS's 13.5%.

SisaIN has conducted this annual trust survey ahead of the Korean Chuseok holiday each year, asking the public to assess various sectors of society. For the 2024 survey, SisaIN partnered with Gallup Korea, surveying 1,008 men and women aged 18 or older between August 25-27, 2024.
