Starting in the second half of 2024, new policies will be introduced in Seoul to improve the quality of life for its residents. Here's an overview of the key changes:

Financial Support for Expectant Mothers

From the second half of the year, expectant mothers aged 35 and above living in Seoul can receive up to 500,000 KRW to help cover medical expenses. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden of pregnancy and childbirth for older mothers.

Expanded Indoor Play Areas for Kids

To provide safe and fun indoor spaces for children, the number of "Seoul-style Kids Cafes" will increase from 74 to 130 locations. These cafes offer a secure environment where children can play and engage in various activities.

Mental Health Services

Seoul will launch the "Mind Investment Support Program" to offer financial aid for professional psychological counseling services. Additionally, a new center for infertility and depression counseling will be established in the southwestern part of the city.

Home Care Services for Medical Aid Recipients

Starting July 1, the "Home Medical Aid Service," previously a pilot program, will be expanded to all 25 districts. This service helps medical aid recipients transition smoothly from hospital to home care, ensuring they can live comfortably and safely at home.

Support for Veterans and the Mentally Disabled

Young veterans who have been injured will receive comprehensive health check-ups and medical expense support. Those with mental disabilities transitioning out of institutional care will be given financial assistance to help them settle into the community.

Education Initiatives

To address educational gaps, Seoul will open the first "medical-based alternative art school" for students with developmental delays. This school will support their healthy growth and development through specialized education programs.

Safety and Security Enhancements

The "Safety Item Support Program" will be expanded to include not just Seoul residents but also those who work or attend school in the city. This program provides safety items like security lights to vulnerable groups.

Economic Support for Small Businesses

To protect small businesses from the economic impacts of high interest rates and inflation, Seoul will subsidize insurance premiums for small business receivables.

Environmental and Energy Initiatives

Citizens practicing eco-friendly driving will earn "Green Practice Driving Mileage." An energy reporting and grading system will be introduced for buildings, which account for 67% of the city's greenhouse gas emissions.

Job and Skill Development for Middle-aged Residents

A new "50 Plus East Campus" will open in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, to support job creation and skill development for middle-aged residents.

New Cultural and Technological Facilities

In August, the Seoul Robot AI Science Center will open in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu. New cultural and art education centers will be established in Gangbuk, Eunpyeong, and Seocho districts to promote local artistic activities. Additionally, a new Seoul Theater Creation Center will be set up in Seongbuk-gu to support theater artists.

Upcoming Events

Several events are planned for the latter half of the year:

  • Game and eSports Week: September 6-8
  • Seoul Beauty Week: October
  • Seoul Smart Life Week: October

These changes and new programs are designed to enhance the well-being, safety, and opportunities for all Seoul residents. For more detailed information, the "2024 Second Half Changes in Seoul Life" e-book will be available on the Seoul city website from July 1.
